William "Bill" Sammons Obituary

The love of life did not end for William (Bill) Sammons on September 20, 2022.  Bill passed away at the age of 76 after a courageous 4 year long fight, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by leveraging the foundation that Bill provided and living their lives to the fullest.

Bill was born on April 20, 1946, in Dover, Delaware and lived in Seaford with his parents, brother and sister until he married the love of his life, Ann Sammons (Mills).  Together, they raised their two children, Wayne and Wendy, and continued living in Seaford as they retired and added on the wonderful role of grandparent.  Bill spent 38 years working at DuPont, where he formed many lasting friendships, while applying his technical skills and serving on the Fire Brigade in support of the DuPont mission.  Outside DuPont, Bill proudly served in the Delaware National Guard and established WES Services, a 20 year-long painting business.  During his free time, Bill enjoyed playing and watching sports with his kids, bowling on the DuPont bowling league, painting, crabbing, fishing, and following the NASCAR circuit.  In retirement, Bill assumed many roles and hobbies.  He assisted his son with his growing small business, he and Ann followed their daughter around the globe during her Army career, he renewed his love of gardening, nurtured his beloved fishpond, raised chickens, and spoiled his amazing grandchildren every chance he could.

Bill will be remembered for his kind heart, his humble character, his resolute work ethic, his commitment to his family and friends, his sage advice, and his insurmountable spirit.

Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Marguerite Sammons, his father, Claudell Sammons, and a niece.  Bill is survived by his wife Ann Sammons, his son Wayne Sammons, daughter-in-law Jennifer Sammons, his daughter Wendy Sammons-Jackson, son-in-law Rich Jackson, his grandchildren Regan Sammons, Paige Sammons, Reed Jackson, Sawyer Jackson and M. Ray Jackson, his sister Peggy Jester, brother-in-law Paul Jester, his brother Ray Sammons, sister-in-law Candy Sammons, ten nieces and nephews.  Bill was also survived by dear friend, Bonnie Spedden, who was very close with both Bill and Ann, who was a godsend during Bill’s illness.

We will be celebrating his life on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at 1:00 PM with a visitation from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, at Cranston’s Funeral Home in Seaford Delaware, with internment to follow at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Oak Grove, Delaware.

Bill held two causes very near and dear to his heart, the American Diabetes Association https://diabetes.org/ and the American Heart Association https://www.heart.org/ and would be most grateful for donations to these charitable organizations in lieu of flowers.
