Walt Moyer, 86, of Seaford, DE, passed away on May 30, 2024. He was born April 22, 1938 in Kutztown, PA to the late William and Daisy Moyer. He grew up in Catasauqua, PA and graduated from Catasauqua High School. After high school, he spent a few years working on his Uncle’s farm with his cousins in Kutztown, PA. He then joined the U.S. Air Force for 20+ years and was stationed in many different states and countries. He retired from the Air Force and settled in Maryland. He then worked for Xerox for 20+ years. In retirement, he settled in Seaford and picked up a side job, as a transport driver for Hertrich Dealership.
As a beloved husband, Walt and Donna enjoyed sailing on over 50 cruises on their preferred cruise line, Royal Caribbean. The best cruises, if you ask the family, were when the entire family journeyed with them to the Caribbean and Canada. Domestically, Ocean City was always a time of creating special memories. As an adventurous Pop-Pop, he enjoyed strapping the helmet to his grandkids and taking them for motorcycle rides. He taught them about his love of racing: whether that was watching NASCAR, going to the dirt track in Georgetown, or attending the bicycle races at the Lehigh Valley Velodrome. Walt never took the easy way out, since he was a real handyman and could fix most anything. He recycled and reused way before it was the cool thing to do.
Walt is survived by his wife Donna of 60 years and children: daughter Michelle Wright (Tim) of Maryland; Wendy Eckenrode (Chris) of Maryland; son Don Moyer (Karen) of California, and son Chris Goetzfried (Lucy) of Arizona; eight beloved grandchildren: Zachary, Jacob, Julia, Scott, Katelyn, Evan, Mark, and Matthew; sister Barbara Hoffman of Pennsylvania; sister-in-law Mary Sipe of Wisconsin; and several cousins of Pennsylvania.
For this Air Force veteran, visitation (10:00am) and service (11:00am) will be on Flag Day, Friday, June 14 at Christ Lutheran Church in Seaford, DE. Pastor Ray Rogers officiating. Reception immediately following the service. Private interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Walt’s honor to Christ Lutheran Church (315 N Shipley St., Seaford, DE 19973).
