Walter G. Hofman
On Sunday, September 13, 2020, Walter G. Hofman, passed suddenly and peacefully at his home in Bridgeville, DE.
Walter was born in Bielsko-Biala, Poland on October 20, 1944. He met Alina Jurkiewicz, the love of his life, in 1966. He was a loving father and grandfather to his son Daniel, his daughter-in-law Ines, his daughter Magdalena, his son-in-law Curtis, and his grandchildren Alexander, Christyn and Zachary.
Walter fought for social change and democracy. He stood up against the communist leadership in Poland. He was a Chairman of Solidarity, the first broad and non-violent social movement that contributed greatly to the fall of communism in Europe.
Walter and his family immigrated to the United States in 1982. He moved from Philadelphia, PA to Bridgeville, DE in 1987. He worked for many years at Penn Fibre in Greenwood, DE.
Walter was a passionate human being who enjoyed life, reading, writing poetry and listening to music from around the world. He loved spending time with his family and friends, having cookouts, big holiday meals and timeless conversations.
Walter contributed a number of poems to literary journals and received poetry awards. In addition to that, he was an opinion columnist for Teraz, a Polish political magazine in Philadelphia.
Walter left us a legacy of determination and patriotism. His love, kindness, generosity, enthusiasm and smile will always stay with us. We love you Tatus!
A mass will be celebrated for Walter on Saturday September 19th and another one on the 26th, both at 5:00 PM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church located in Seaford, DE (Live transmission: https://www.facebook.com/OLLSeafordDE).
