STEPHEN REMENTER Obituary

Stephen Rawlins Rementer, age 78 of Seaford, DE passed away on Tuesday, December 15th, 2018 at Nanticoke Hospital in Seaford, DE.

Born in Georgetown, Delaware on October 3rd , 1942 to Roland James Rementer and Esther Rawlins Rementer in their farmhouse residing in the Old Furnace area between Georgetown and Seaford. Steve was the second born of 4 children and graduated from Georgetown High School in 1961.

Steve was preceded in death by his brothers James Roland Rementer and Theodore Kenneth Rementer, his son Michael James Rementer and his wife Mary Pizzuto Rementer. Steve is survived by his eldest son Anthony Steven Rementer, his wife Denise, their Children Burton, Michael, and Cody and their children, his great-grandchildren, Hailey, Brooke, Charlotte, Korbin, and Isaac. He is survived by his youngest son, Christopher Roland Rementer, his wife Julie and their children Gavin and Parker. Also, he is survived by his youngest sibling, Mary Lou Rementer, and many nieces and nephews.

Steve worked at Delmarva Power and Light with many people that he loved and felt honored to spend a career with. He shared many of these people with his family and the whole family thanks all of you for the wonderful times and friendship. It meant more than we can express. After a career of over 33 years where he started climbing poles and retired as the Super Intendant for Construction in the Bay Area, He retired early at the age of 53 when Delmarva Power and Light merged with a larger power company. A few years later he also did some project management work for Delaware Electric Co-Op but for just a few years. He enjoyed being retired.

In his younger years, Steve loved to hunt and fish. He was especially fond of quail hunting with pointers. You could see it in his face when he spoke of a dog locked on point and the sudden sound of a covey flushing from the knee high grasses or the cutover grounds they loved to walk. He told us about rockfish they caught in the Nanticoke that you could hold by the gills while the tail laid in the bottom of the boat. He passed his love of the outdoors along to his children while creating so many powerful and often hilarious memories. Later in life he discovered flounder fishing on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and he couldn’t get enough. The long ride down and the days spent drifting around the waters with friends and family were some of the best in his life. That was easy to see. Not to mention, he loved fried flounder.

Other than spending time in nature, Steve was always there for his family with love and support. He was there to help his children get their lives started and just help out in about a million small ways and a few big ones as well. From help with child care to fixing your home to settling a disagreement, he was great at seeing a situation from many points of view and was always there to help you get settled when you couldn’t seem to get it figured.

He was there for his wife Mary as she dealt with Alzheimer’s disease in the last few years of her life. He showed an inspiring amount of love and devotion during those tough times. He was a solid figure for many of us many times and he will be greatly missed and thought of fondly.

A viewing will be held at Cranston’s Funeral Home in Seaford, DE on December 23, 2020 from 1 until 2 with a service following the viewing. Steve has asked to be cremated and placed in the ground between his son Michael and his wife Mary. A separate service for interment will be held at a later date.

In honor of his wife Mary and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, Illinois 60601 or online at www.act.alz.org/donate.
