Ruth Mary McManus

Ruth Mary McManus, age 90 passed away peacefully at her home on September 13, 2022

in Seaford DE surrounded by her family.        

Born in Wilmington, DE, Ruth was the daughter of the late Willard and Ruth MaGee Mitchell.  Ruth grew up in the Wilmington, DE area.  After graduating High School, she worked 10 years at Hercules Powder Company in Wilmington, DE.  She married Joseph “Joe” McManus on November 21, 1956 in Wilmington, DE.   Joe and Ruth moved to Kinston, NC and started their family before moving to Seaford in 1962 where Joe worked as a Mechanical Engineer for DuPont until his retirement in 1985.  Joe preceded her in 1987.

Ruth was a very active volunteer in the Seaford Community.  She was also a member and active participant for several organizations including garden clubs, Seaford Historical Society, Meals on Wheels, American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, Hospital Auxiliary and Seaford Yacht Club and also served as Vice President to the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.  Ruth enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, bowling, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends.

Ruth will be dearly missed by many, especially her children, Brian (Lois), Grant, FL,; Gregg McManus, Seaford, DE, Carol (Darren) Elliott, 2 grandchildren, Jared Elliott and Jeremy Elliott, Seaford, DE.  Brother, David Mitchell, Seattle, WA and many friends.
