Richard Brooks Robertson passed away peacefully at home in Bridgeville, Delaware on May 20, 2023.
He loved his family, his country, and the Baltimore Ravens.
He was born in Baltimore, MD on January 24, 1950, and grew up in Essex and Monkton, MD. In his late teens, he found his passion for fighting fires and became a volunteer firefighter alongside his father for Hereford Volunteer Fire Company in Maryland. Richard graduated from Hereford High School. Shortly after graduating in 1968, he joined the United States Army and proudly served in Vietnam in the 101st Airborne Division.
He took great pride in his career as a firefighter, he wore many hats. Serving as the Assistant Chief of Operations for A Shift in the Fire Department at Martin’s State Airport in Baltimore, Maryland held a special place for him. As well, for many years, he served in the Air National Guards.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Janet Powell Robertson, his second wife Jacqueline “Renee” Butschky Robertson, his father, Lester Garwood Robertson, his mother, Margaret Varina Robertson, and sister Bonnie Robertson.
He is survived by his daughters Michele Robertson and Stacey Taylor (Donald Robbins), his grandson- Teague Elliott, and granddaughters- Kaya (Ashley) Elliott, Lindsi (Erik) Peterson, and Emily Taylor (Eric Davis). Great granddaughters- Rilee Mae Cordrey and Paisley Peterson, and great grandsons- Colten Ruark, Keanu Davis, and Tyler Davis.
Richard was a modest man who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and watching the Baltimore Ravens annihilate the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Indianapolis Colts. He touched the hearts and lives of many during his time here with us, and he will be dearly missed.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at The VFW Virgil Wilson Post 4961, 9767 Middleford Road, Seaford Delaware 19973. Casual attire is encouraged (he wouldn’t want it any other way).
Memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Shriner’s Hospital for Children, in his honor, would be something that he would have appreciated.
