ROMAINE RUPP Obituary

Romaine Mildred Rupp (nee Fey), 100

Romaine M. Rupp passed peacefully from this world on November 23, 2020. Born on June 24, 1920, in Scranton Pa., Mom lived a rich and full life, dedicated to love of family, devotion to her faith and service to society. As she was born into and raised through the teeth of the Great Depression, her early life was challenging. However, there were no obstacles too great for her to overcome. She committed to receiving a secondary education and became a registered nurse, graduating from Westside Hospital in Scranton, Pa., in 1941. With the outbreak of World War II, she enlisted and served three years in a military hospital. In 1948, Romaine married the love of her life, Joseph J. Rupp. Romaine and Joe raised their five children in Philadelphia, Pa., where they lived for forty-five years. In 1994, they moved to Seaford ,De. They enjoyed fifty-one years of marriage, until Joe’s death in 1999.

Service seemed to come naturally to Romaine. While being a wonderful mom, grand mom, great grand mom ,wife and sister, she always found the time to give to those in need. Much of her generosity funneled through her great commitment to her church and faith. She was a devoted member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic church, The Legion of Mary, Society of the Little Flower and The American Legion. God granted her an abundance of love, energy and good will. She shared these daily for all of her one hundred years.

She was a very social person, enjoying community interaction. Her yearly Christmas caroling parties were memorable events. She was also an excellent cook (except for those fruit cakes). Those who were touched by her life were left the better for it.

Romaine was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph J. Rupp, her sister, Mary Fey, her brother, Gene Fey and her son in law Rick DeMarco. She is survived by her five children: Joseph Rupp (Deborah), Patti Liszkay (Thomas), Michael Rupp (Louise), James Rupp (Theresa) and Romaine Rupp DeMarco. She was also blessed with nineteen grandchildren and fifteen  great grandchildren.

Due to Covid, a private family graveside service was held on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic cemetery in Seaford, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Romaine’s memory be made to the nonprofit charitable organization, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 528 E. Stein Highway, Seaford, DE, 19973.
