Roberta Jo “Bobbie” Murphy, beloved wife, mother, aunt and friend to many, left this mortal world to join her precious lord Jesus on Sunday, September 19, 2021. Born in Baltimore, MD on September 26, 1935, she spent her formulative years in Greensboro, MD where she attended high school and would go on to meet the love of her life – Jack Murphy. Knowing they were the loves of each other’s lives, Bobbie and Jack were married in 1953, prior to his deployment to Austria for the United States Army.
Bobbie, not wanting to be apart from her Jack any longer than necessary, boarded the Queen Mary to join him overseas. This courageous 18-year-old crossed an ocean, landed in a foreign country and crossed Europe to be with her new husband. During the 18 months they were in Austria, Bobbie met many who would become life-long friends and had some amazing adventures, which instilled in her a love of travel.
Upon returning stateside, Bobbie settled in Seaford, DE where she would live for the next 66 years – raising two boys and making a wonderful and loving home for her family. In addition to her amazing homemaking skills, she also worked for a while at the DuPont Nylon Plant and the Seaford School District.
She enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to visit Egypt, Ireland, Israel, and Mexico, where she fell in love with Cancun and kept going back yearly for 16 years.
A born-again Christian, she was involved in several area churches, most recently at Bethel Worship Center.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by her loving husband, John “Jack” Murphy, her oldest son, John Murphy (and his husband Thomas Ayers), and their youngest son, Mark Murphy, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews and friends. She is pre-deceased by her parents, Fred and Roberta Burkindine and eleven siblings.
Funeral Services will be on Thursday, September 23rd at Noon at Bethel Worship Center, 26648 Sussex Hwy, Seaford, where friends may call from 11 to 12. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
