RALPLH GIVENS Obituary

Ralph James “Jamie” Givens, 59, of Laurel, Delaware passed away comfortably in his home surrounded by his family, children, grandchildren, and loved ones on December 29, 2021. Born November 2, 1962, he is the son of Richard A. Givens and Emma Jean Lowe.  He was a graduate of Laurel Senior High School (Class of 1980), and Sussex Vocational High School where he studied agricultural mechanics.

After graduation he moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where he worked as a parts inventory manager for Caterpillar Equipment before enlisting in the United States Air Force. After his time in the military, Jamie began work in the poultry industry on Delmarva where he worked as a flock supervisor for Showell Poultry and Perdue Farms. Later, Jamie became the owner of his family’s business in Laurel, Lowe’s Lakeview Farm and Recreational Area, where he had many years of success sponsoring music festivals, fishing tournaments, and attracting campers to enjoy the waters of Chipman’s Pond. In addition to the campground, Jamie had a broiler poultry farm and achieved recognition as Grower of the Year at Perdue Farms. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, was an avid gardener, and enjoyed cooking and barbequing for family and friends.  In 2010, Jamie was diagnosed with end stage renal disease, which ultimately claimed his life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his best friend Raymond W. O’Neal III, and a sister, Melody Givens Atkins. He is survived by a son Matthew J. Givens and his wife Lindsay, daughter Kelsey L. Givens, grandsons Everett J. Givens and Mason Moore, and granddaughter Alivia O’Neal. In addition, he is survived by siblings Richard A. Givens II of Dover, Catherine L. Calloway of Bethel, Charles C. Givens, and Craig W. Givens, both of Laurel.
