PRUDENCIO G ROSAS

Prudencio G. Rosas MD passed peacefully on February 2, 2021 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 87. 

Dr. Rosas was born to Simeon Rosas and Maria Gozo in Majayjay Laguna, Philippines on April 28, 1933. He attended medical school at University of Santo Tomas in Manila graduating in 1959. He emigrated to the United States where he practiced medicine in Brooklyn, NY at the Jewish Medical Center and in Bronx, NY before moving to Seaford, DE in 1976. He was an emergency room doctor at both Nanticoke Memorial Hospital and Beebe Medical Center and a family physician in private practice at 908 Middleford Road for over forty years. 

He had a great love for music and was a dedicated self-taught jazz pianist. When he was a medical student in the Philippines, he worked part-time playing piano in restaurants and cafes. When he moved to the United States, he continued playing with musicians in both the musical and medical communities. He was a member of various jazz bands including The Medics and the Jazz Imports. In his spare time, he loved watching and listening to his favorite pianists — George Shearing, Bill Evans, Chick Corea. He also enjoyed fishing in the Delaware Bay.

He is survived by his wife, Dr. Fe Luna Rosas, sister Dr. Asuncion (Fred) Rosas Magallenes and his children, Noel and Joyce Rosas, Norberto Rosas, Ann Marie Rosas and Theresa Rosas, grandchildren, Christina Huck, Erica and Ryan Stafford, Matthew Rosas, Maria and Ryan Swingle, and four great grandchildren, Katelyn Williams, Lucas Williams, Raelynn Stafford and Amelia Stafford. 

Prudencio was dedicated to his family and his work as a doctor. He brought the people he loved together with his natural talent as a pianist and love of music which he shared joyously and generously. He inspired and touched many. We hold his memory close to our hearts. 

Dr. Rosas, Pa, Uncle Pruding, Kuya Ruding, Pru—we will dearly miss your quiet, kind, caring and musical presence. 

A funeral mass and burial will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church and cemetery on Wednesday, February 10 at 11 am. The mass will be streamed online at https://www.facebook.com/OLLSeafordDE. In consideration of social restrictions, in-person attendance will be limited to immediate family. A memorial gathering may be planned at a later date.
