NANCY BROWN Obituary

Nancy S. Brown, 88 Years

September 17, 1932 – February 20, 2021

Gracious lady, wonderful woman, Nancy Shivers Brown, of Seaford, Delaware, passed peacefully at home on Saturday, February 20th, 2021 surrounded by her children and husband; she had waited for all to be with her.

She loved her family infinitely, still does, and that is equally true for her nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Better yet, she knew they loved her too, unconditionally.  Such a gift!

Nancy was born September 17th, 1932, to Dr. George and Claudine Shivers, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  She grew up there, mostly, and went on to study at the University of Colorado, where she met Karl K. Brown, Jr. of Seaford, the love of her life.  Married after her Junior year, she finished college at the University of South Carolina, where work had taken Karl.  Nancy’s love for Colorado is eternal, and she was delighted to tell all that she now has two grandsons studying at the University of Colorado in Boulder.

Nancy was preceded in death by two sons – Jeff age 18 and Karl III age 28 – and by her parents: father George Shivers, stepfather Nicky Heinicke and Mother Claudine Heinicke.

She is survived by her husband Karl, a sister, Elizabeth (Nevada), three children – Linda Hunter (Florida), Susan Stockman (North Carolina) and Marc Brown (Colorado) - nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, as well as many fine spouses and partners of those survivors.  The family all know they have been blessed with a Treasure in “Mom”, “Mom-Mom”, “Gi-Gi”.

In 1981 Nancy’s life in Seaford, Delaware began, and the next forty years of her life here offered her the opportunity to thrive in so many ways.  Great friendships, serving the community, worship at St. Johns United Methodist Church and “the Farm” all gave Nancy great joy in her life here in Seaford.

A volunteer by nature, Nancy was as comfortable and effective serving behind the counter at the Hospital Gift Shop, as she was in her time serving as President of the Hospital Auxiliary at Nanticoke.  From her early days as a Girl Scout leader (Hinsdale, Illinois) to later opportunities in Seaford as Charter Member and President of the local PEO Chapter J, or involvement in United Methodist Women (UMW), she worked with and cared for so very many people.  Nancy always required 100% effort from herself and was never happy with anything less.

Nancy was an avid reader, enjoyed bridge and cherished the many friendships that grew from these activities.

For Nancy, the central thing was always her family.  She loved her family, she loved her community and chances are, Dear Reader, she loved you too.

A memorial service to honor Nancy is scheduled for:

Monday, March 15th at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 300 N. Pine St, Seaford, DE. Greeting Nancy’s Family will be at 11 AM, Memorial service at 12 PM, led by Rev. Richard Evans.
