Michael Cordrey Obituary

Michael Pierce Cordrey, age 71 of Seaford, DE passed away on June 3, 2023. He was born on October 13, 1951, and was the son of Annabel Cordrey and the late Carrol Cordrey of Delmar, DE.

He graduated from Delmar High School in 1970. Following high school, he served in the Army National Guards as a an arial photographer. He would often tell stories of his time in the guards and the maneuvers he would do to get the best images. He was very meticulous in a lot of the areas of his life, especially as he applied his artistic abilities including his love for architectural designing. Mike worked throughout his life, including retiring from DuPont in Seaford, DE as a Nylon operator working on A shift. Throughout his life he also served on his families Ward/Cordrey Tax Ditch, as an officer until his passing.

In 1986 he married the late Sharon Cordrey of Seaford,DE residing there until they moved to Delmar, De in 1990. He is survived by a stepdaughter Monica Shubert (Scott), Grandchildren Seth (Caroline), Cody (Logan), Shalyn, Cailee, Elle and a great-grandson Beckham.  His Brother Kenneth Cordrey, Niece Holly White (Dean), Niece Denice Cordrey, Great Nephew Cameron Cordrey (Haley) and Great Niece Logan Cordrey. Proceeded in death, by his father Carrol Cordrey, Nephew Ted Cordrey and Grandparents Leon and Lola Hastings, Fred and Dora (Lowe) Ward.

He passioned after history on his spare time when he was not working or being with family. This history adventure led him to read books about shipwrecks off the shores of MD, DE, VA, and then applying that passion to his interest of metal detecting, which then encouraged him to patent desires to make things that were not available on the markets. He really loved creating and building to make it his brand. As many may know Mike from past to current years, he was always an avid Classic truck and cars fan. Leading to more desires to tinker on his creative mind to explore new ways.

Mike will be missed by family and friends alike. Mike’s favorite and newly found logo which he discovered after his wife’s passing in 2016 was “YOLO” (you only live once).  May we remember and carrying on Mikes favorite “YOLO” in your adventure.

A Celebration of life to TBD later this summer 2023.
