Seaford- Maynard Lee Spicer passed away on October 4th, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Seaford, Delaware on May 31, 1932, he is the son of the late Shelley Orlando Spicer, Sr., and Maude Virginia Wright Spicer. Maynard graduated from Seaford High School in the Class of 1950, where he played football and basketball. He went on to graduate with a business degree from Goldey-Beacom College. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and upon his return was hired by Holloway Brothers Tools Inc., where he worked for 39 years.
“Spike,” as his friends called him, was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, as well as a member of The Seaford Lions Club, The Oxford Sailing Association, The Association of Seaford Sailors, The Sussex Aeromodelers Club, and on the board of the Seaford Museum. He loved watching his grandchildren compete in their sporting events, sailing the Chesapeake Bay, creating train layouts, building model airplanes, crafting furniture, and tracing his family ancestry. He was a wonderful husband, brother, and father and very committed to his family. Mr. Spicer is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary “Diane” Harper Spicer, his daughters Lisa M. Spicer (Ken Davis) and Leigh Ann M. Spicer Parks (Frank Parks), and his five grandchildren, Garrett, Nathan, Trent Spicer-Davis and Zak and Hailey Parks and his brother, Shelley Spicer (Mary Lou).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two older brothers, Arnold Spicer and Jennings Spicer, an older sister Inez Morgan, and his daughter Cynthia Diane Spicer.
On October 10th, 2021 there will be a visitation at 1 PM with services to follow at 2 PM at St. John's United Methodist Church 300 Pine St. Seaford DE, 19973. Following the interment, there will be a reception (arrangements to be announced later). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Spicer’s memory to St. John’s United Methodist Church, 300 North Pine Street, Seaford, DE 19973, and to the Fisher of Men Foundation of Seaford, Delaware www.fisherofmenfoundation.org.
