Matthew Earl Esterson, age 61, of Seaford, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on October 15, 2022, at Lofland Park Center, surrounded by family. Born on November 3, 1960, in Dover, Delaware, he was the son of the late Neil E. Esterson and Janet T. Esterson.
Matt graduated from Seaford Senior High School in 1978. He enjoyed surf fishing, hunting, and camping with his friends and family. He was a former member of the Assateague Mobile Sportfishermen’s Association and the National Rifle Association. Matt was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy for several years. After the Navy, he obtained his Master HVAC license which he imparted his expertise by starting up multiple service divisions for local companies over the years. He ended his career employed with Hancock & Son in Salisbury, Maryland. Matt loved the Lord, and his servant’s heart led him to become an ordained Deacon at Grace Seaford Church. Believing in redemption, Matt and his wife were founding leaders of Celebrate Recovery at his church; a nationally recognized Christian 12-Step Recovery Program.
In addition to his parents, Matt was preceded in death by brother Michael R. Esterson and niece Erica H. Hitchens. He is survived by his loving wife Sharon M. Esterson, brother Christopher D. Esterson (Debbie), and sister Mollie A. Esterson; four sons: Christopher R. Esterson (Daphne), H. Erik Mulford (Chelsea), Matthew S. Esterson (Sharon), Ethan A. Mulford (Shayna) all of Seaford; niece Nicole H. Hill (Brian) of Delmar, nephew Shawn D. Esterson (Sarah) of Norfolk, Virginia, niece Courtney D. Cooper (Jason) of Smyrna, and former wife Patricia R. Esterson of Seaford. He was also known as “Pawpaw” to nine grandchildren: Alyson, Paisley, Tyrrian, Ryker, Haakon, Koda, Ayva, Noah, and Aksel.
