Mary DeLuca Obituary

Mary Lee DeLuca, age 97, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2023 at Tidal Health Nanticoke Hospital, Seaford, DE. Born in Seaford on October 19, 1925, she was the daughter of the late C. Raymond Plummer and F. Estella Plummer.

Mary Lee graduated from Seaford High School in 1943 and was always proud of her education. After graduation, she was employed by the DuPont plant in offices for several years and later employed with Montgomery Ward Catalog Sales Office.  She was made its Store Manager until she retired in 1965. She then became bookkeeper for Robinson Real Estate. She married Albert R. DeLuca in 1947 after meeting him on a blind date arranged by a friend whom she told she did not want to meet anybody who played baseball from PA! He was a member of the Seaford Eagles at that time. They started traveling in their Airstream across the U.S. and later became permanent “snowbirds” and spent many winters in Melbourne, FLA. As members of the Delmarva Airstream Club they made many friends and never missed the “rallies.” They did everything together – wherever you saw one the other was close by. She loved gardening and crafts and created many beautiful items and Al made beautiful clocks. They both loved their nieces and nephews and were very close to them. She took it upon herself to head up her Class Reunion Committee contacting all 1943 class members and their Silver Anniversary was held at the Seaford Inn on June 29, 1968. She later was a leader with the Seaford Alumni Association as recorder from its inception receiving a plaque for exemplary service award in May, 2006. Her heart and soul was with the Soroptimist Club. With over 50 years membership and its President from 1971 to 1973 she was proud of the service to her community. She was a member of the Venture Club and served on the Seaford Better Decorations Committee. She attended St. John’s United Methodist Church until she entered the Manor House in 2016 where she resided on Willowbrooke Court. A heartfelt thanks is extended to Manor House staff for their kind and compassionate care, especially Sabrina, Cinda and April and her other nurses and aides.

She is survived by a brother, Jack R, Plummer of Seaford, several nieces and nephews: Terry Plummer of San Diego, CA, Anita Griffith (Lee) of Friendswood, Texas, Jane Plummer of Annapolis, MD, Ruby Adams of Rehoboth Beach, DE, L. Ann Plummer of Laurel, DE, Jay Plummer (Diane) of Magnolia, DE, Linda P. Justice (Nelson) of Laurel, DE, John DeLuca (Sandy) of Raleigh, NC, Jim DeLuca (Janna) of Kernersville, NC. She was preceded by her parents, her husband and a sister, Catherine Adams and brother-in-law Roy, a brother, Joseph F. Plummer and sister-in-law, Pansy, and sister-in-law, Jane Plummer.
