On Friday, July 24, 2020, Mary Sanders Rendon passed away peacefully in her home. Mary was born to Charles and Francis Martin on February 23, 1940, in Providence Rhodes island. After graduating from high school, Mary earned her Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) Degree and served in diverse medical settings such as Burn Centers, Psychological Wards, and Neonatal Units. After moving to Delaware with her late husband James Sanders, Mary earned her Registered Nursing (RN) degree from Delaware Technical and Community college in Georgetown De. From that point, Mary served as the nurse at several local poultry plants such as Mountaire Farms and Perdue. Out of great determination, Mary maintained her nursing credentials up until one year of her passing.
Mary and her daughter Tonya attended the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Seaford, De. and were active members of the Legion of Mary. Mary is survived by her three daughters, Catherine, Laura, and Tonya, as well as five grandchildren, Kristen, Georgette, Hanna, Donald, and Ali. Mary is also survived by her only sibling, Patricia.
Mary's family would like to offer special thanks to Compassionate Care Hospice in Georgetown. Through their care and guidance, Mary was able to spend her final months in the peace and comfort of her own home. Very special appreciation is extended to Mary's daughter Tonya who took primary responsibility for providing "around the clock" care during Mary's lengthy illness.
A burial service will be held for Mary on Thursday, August 6, 2020, at 1:00 pm at the Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Dagsboro, De. (face masks are required). Due to Covid-19, a small reception will be open only to immediate family members after the burial service.
