MARION LOUISE CRIMMINS

Marion Louise Crimmins, of Seaford, DE, passed peacefully away on May 9, 2021, surrounded by her loved ones. She is survived by John F. Crimmins, her devoted husband of 69 years; siblings: Doris Lidke (husband, Don) of Florida, Carol Fox (husband, Raymond) of New Jersey, Herbert Karg (wife, Cherie) of California; her three children: son David Crimmins and his wife, Katy; daughters CarolSue Crimmins and Denice Crimmins Cordrey; and her four grandchildren: Madelyn (Maddie) Crimmins, John (Jay) Crimmins, Cameron Cordrey, and Logan Cordrey as well as many nieces and nephews.

Marion Karg was born on May 19, 1930 in Newark, NJ. When she was 15 years old, she met her future husband at Columbia High School, in South Orange, NJ.  They married on April 26, 1952, after John came home from Korea, and finished his time with the Army Corps of Engineers. The newlyweds settled in Irvington, NJ. Their first two children, David and CarolSue, were born in Brick, NJ, before the Crimmins family moved to Seaford, DE in 1964. Their third child, Denice, was born in Salisbury the following year.

Marion and John opened a store on High Street in Seaford, called the City News Agency, with newspapers and magazines upstairs, and a pet shop downstairs.  There was also a lunch counter, which served Marion’s tasty sandwiches and soups.

From their first days in Seaford, Marion and John became active members of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Marion joined the Ladies’ Sodality, where she met some of the women who would become her lifelong friends.  The Crimmins family was one of several who began a tradition of gathering for the holidays. Indeed, more than 55 years later, the Crimmins, McMahon, and Laughery families were still joining together to celebrate each Thanksgiving and Christmas.

During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Marion cared for the priests of Our Lady of Lourdes, cooking their meals and cleaning the rectory. The Crimmins house was always open to the priests as well, with Fr. Daughan, Fr. Kelly, Fr. Gibbon, and others dropping by for dinner, and always joining the families for their holiday get-togethers.

Marion eventually retired from a secretarial position at Kern Distributing Company. She thoroughly enjoyed her retirement, spending as much time as possible with her husband, children, and grandchildren. In addition to her family, Marion spent time with her friends from OLL and the Red Hat.

Marion lived a long and happy life, devoted to loving and caring for others.  Her generous heart, warm, open smile, and quick laughter will be greatly missed. As her husband says, “She didn’t know anybody that wasn’t a friend.”  Her family takes comfort in the fact that her life came to a close the way she desired: in the home where she had lived for 57 years, surrounded by the love and care of family, she slipped peacefully into God’s loving embrace.

Celebratory Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes, Seaford, will be held on May 19, 2021 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, 2nd Floor, Newark DE  19711.
