Josephine Guerin Backes

Josephine Guerin Backes, age 95, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025.  She was born in Lewes, DE on April 10, 1929, the daughter of the late Fredrick Joseph Guerin and Mary Moore Guerin. 

Josephine graduated from Lewes High School and Goldey Beacom College. Josephine had many hobbies including attending Church and Church activities at Crossroad Community Church, various arts and crafts, baking, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William Anthony Backes, and her sister, Elizabeth House.

Josephine is survived by two sons, Steven Michael Backes (Bing) and David Christopher Backes (Nina), daughter, April B Willey (John), grandchildren, Jessica, Karis, Jasmine, William, Janice, Jason, Aaron, Jenna, and Ashley, as well as many great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM with a public visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00  AM at Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Delmarva Teen Challenge, 611 3rd Street, Seaford, DE 19973.
