Jane Long

Jane Long of Salisbury, MD Passed away on April 14, 2022.  Jane was born March 6, 1929 in Laurel, DE, daughter of the late Dr. John A. Wilker of St. Mary’s, Ohio and Anna Kenmure Wilker of Brooklyn, NY. She attended local schools, graduated from Dickinson Seminary in Williamsport, PA in 1947, and later took classes at the old Beacom Business School in downtown Wilmington, DE.

Jane married Eldred Long of Salisbury and raised her two sons there.  Jane worked in Direct Sales with an Aloe Skin Care and Cosmetic Co and became a director within a few years. She also began a long involvement in the Business and Professional Women of the Salisbury chapter. During this time, she was President of the Salisbury chapter and became Woman of the Year.

Jane moved to Seaford, DE in September of 1995 when she married Wesley C. Short. Jane was active in her church and volunteered in several of the organizations in Seaford. Jane continued to be active in BPW, serving as its president. In 1996 she was voted Seaford BPW Woman of the Year and in 1997 State Level Woman of the Year. In 1999 she was First Vice President for the state, President Elect, and in 2001 the BPW/DE State President.

Jane was very patriotic and had a lifelong devotion to the American Legion serving as president of the Women’s Auxiliary in Salisbury. Her father was a World War I veteran, and she donated his military items to the Seaford Museum.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Wilker of Birmingham, Alabama, and her previous husband Wesley Short. She is survived by two sons, Dr. David A. Long (Nancy) of Seaford and Donald Long (Terri) of Lewes, DE. Three grandsons, Jacob, Zachary and Garrett Long, Marian Clever her cousin from NY and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 11am where friends may call between 10 and 11 at Trinity Church at the corner of Rt. 50 and N. Division St. in Salisbury, MD.  The burial will take place Monday, April 25, 2022 at 11am at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, DE.
