James “Jim" Henry Young, 87, passed away on June 8, 2023, at Tidal Health Nanticoke Hospital in Seaford, Delaware surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born on March 4, 1936, in Milton, Delaware to Howard R. Young Sr. and Isadore B. (Howe) Young.
Jim was a graduate of Milford High School and the Delaware National Guard Academy. He served in the Army National Guard as a Lieutenant and was a proud veteran.
Besides serving in the National Guard, Jim worked as a farmer on the family farm and an insurance agent before becoming the owner of Ralph E. Davis Insurance Company. He was a respected member of the community, a member of the Collin's Pond Association, AMVETS, and past President of the Bassmasters of Delaware.
Jim was a man of many interests. He enjoyed fishing, camping, golfing, shuffleboard, and pool in his free time. He was also a talented wooden boat craftsman and built several of the boats he used for fishing.
Jim was a devoted family man and is survived by his children James H. Young II, Deborah Austin (Don), Nanette Melson (Randy), William Young, and Ann Scott (Richard). He is also survived by his grandchildren Trevor Young, Jessica Young, Heather Wisniewski, Mercedes Young, Natalie Warfel, Meghann Melson, Randall Melson, Jeremy Melson, Jackie Young, Brittany Brocato, Grant Gray, Jaime Cooper, Troy Scott, and Eric Scott, as well as 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Jim was preceded in death by his father, mother, wife Joyce A. Young, brothers Robert, Charles, Richard, and Howard Young Jr., and granddaughter Diane Young.
A viewing will be held at Cranston Funeral Home on Shipley Street in Seaford, DE from 12:00p to 1:00p on Friday, June 16th. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Legion Nanticoke Post 6, PO Box 781, Seaford, Delaware 19973.
Jim will be remembered for his love of family and friends, sense of humor, and his passion for the outdoors. We will miss him dearly.
