JAMES McILVAIN, III Obituary

James Harry (“Maxey”) McIlvain, III of Seaford, DE. at the age of 87 went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 13, 2020. Harry was born in Bridgeville, DE on September 23, 1933, the son of the late J. Harry McIlvain, Jr. and Alyce Irma Tyrrell.
 

Harry was a graduate of Bridgeville High School. He worked for the Bridgeville Acme for 13 years and then worked for General Foods in Dover for 28 years. After retirement he worked at Lomar Office Supply in Seaford.


He was a member of the Seaford Presbyterian Church for over 35 years and was a member of the church choir for many years. He was a member of the Nanticoke Senior Center where he served on the board, was a volunteer for its food delivery program, and actively participated in the many activities there. Harry and his wife Doloras were members of the Whirl-A-Way Square Dance Club for 34 years.

 

Harry had a very gracious and generous heart. Over the years, he donated locally to the Seaford Presbyterian Church, Nanticoke Senior Center, Seaford Volunteer Fire Department, Delmarva Teen Challenge, God’s Food Wagon, Love Inc., Home of the Brave Veterans’ Home, and Whirl-A-Ways Square Dancing Club. He also gave to other organizations such as Wounded Warrior Project, St. Jude’s Hospital, Children’s Hunger Relief Fund, and ASPCA.
 

Harry’s wife Doloras died in 2011. He is also preceded in death by his brother Ralph McIlvain, and sister Lauretta Mae Nichols.
 

He is survived by his daughter, Tina Whaley and her husband Ken; his son, James McIlvain and his wife Lynn Marie; his daughter, Peggy McIlvain; his grandchildren, Charity Vernon, Maria Milliken, and Timothy Whaley, Hannah McIlvain-Burton, and Jamie McIlvain; his great-grandchildren Hurley and Talulla Turner and Weston Milliken; his stepson Larry Walter; step-grandsons Chad Bredbenner, and Clint Bredbenner; step-great-grandchildren Patty, Shannon, Josh, and Ty Bredbenner.

 

Friends may call at the CRANSTON FUNERAL HOME, 300 Shipley St., Seaford on Thursday evening from 6 to 8pm. Private Funeral Services will be held at the Seaford Presbyterian Church, Seaford, DE followed by the burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Seaford Presbyterian Church, 710 Bridgeville Hwy., Seaford, DE 19973 or to the Nanticoke Senior Center, PO Box 28, Seaford, DE 19973.
