It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dorothy “Dot” Whaley on March 1, 2025, at TidalHealth Nanticoke. Dot was the beloved wife of Carlton Whaley for 67 years before his passing in December of 2015. She was also preceded in death by her parents Maurice H. Lloyd and Helen M. Lloyd (née Ward), as well as her brothers Ronald Lloyd and Richard Lloyd.
Dot was born on March 4, 1929, in Seaford, DE. She grew up and attended school in Seaford. She met Carlton at the age of 16, while working at the Palace Theater, and they later married in 1948. Dot and Carlton built a beautiful life together, owning, first, a laundromat, and then The Party Corner for over 40 years. Dot worked for the Diamond State Telephone Company for over 20 years as a telephone operator and also desk supervisor, before opening the family businesses. But most of all, Dot was a wife and a mother to her three daughters, and later a grandmother and a great grandmother to many.
Dot was a member of the ladies’ auxiliary of the VFW Virgil Wilson Post 4961 in Seaford, DE. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, as well as a Life Member of Soroptimist International of Seaford where she sat on many committees throughout her membership, as well as volunteering for other ventures in her community such as reading to elementary school children. She loved to crochet and knit, read, play dominoes, and cards, but most of all, she loved spending time with her loving family.
Dot is survived by her daughters, Karen Holman (David), Denise Jester (Larry), and Kimberly Carney (David), and her grandchildren Jennifer Stockman (Doug), Lara Hudson (Matt), Lyndsey Bozick (Shaun), Justin Carney, Katy Carney, and great grandchildren, Jake and Luke Stockman, Hailley and Gracy Hudson, Siena and Lyberti Bozick, and Kinley Perdue.
She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, and her best friend Helen Records.
Services will be held at Cranston’s Funeral Home on Shipley St. in Seaford, DE on Wednesday, March the 5th. There will be a public visitation from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, with services to follow, and a graveside service at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Seaford.
Although we will miss her beautiful smile and her ability to bring joy and happiness wherever she went, we are comforted in knowing that her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched.
