David "Dave" Carney Obituary

David (Dave) John Carney passed away peacefully in his home in the presence of his lifelong (42 yrs.) love and wife of nearly 36 years, Kimberly, on April 22, 2026. He was preceded in death by his mother Sally R. Carney and grandparents George and Jane Robinson. He is survived by his wife Kimberly, his son Justin Carney (Kaylah Asplen) of Seaford, his daughter Kathleen (Katy) Carney (Chucky Spanos), his granddaughters Kinley Perdue and Willow Spanos, all of Bridgeville. His brother Arthur (Art) Carney (Terri) of Tyler, TX, brother Steven Carney (Margo Snay) of Seaford, his sisters-in-law Karen Holman (David) of Bridgeville and Denise Jester (Larry) of Seaford, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best friend David (Dave) Stang (Robin) of Laurel, and a man he has always considered his son, Jamie Stang (Amber) of Grand Prairie, TX.

Dave was born on August 21, 1967, in Cheverly, MD to the late Sally Carney. He moved to Seaford around the age of 5. He grew up in a neighborhood full of friends and fond memories. He played baseball for Nanticoke Little League in Seaford and was a member of the 1985 14-15 year old All Star team who won the US Championship. He continued his love of sports after high-school, playing in various softball leagues for many years.

Dave loved to hunt and fish, especially bass fishing, as well as visiting our local beaches and Hatteras Island to surf fish and spend time with his family. He was a custom woodworker by trade, but this was his true passion. He worked for the James A. Cassidy company in Seaford for many years, building custom windows and doors, and later worked at Tanglewood Conservatories where he continued his career building custom windows and doors for conservatories until his health declined in 2010.

Dave battled many health issues and injuries, but he persevered and was on his way back to being healthy when he was stricken with ALS. He was diagnosed with ALS in April of 2025 and battled this disease with all the strength and grace he could give.

Services will be held at the Gethsemane Church Fellowship Hall at 2701 Woodland Ferry Rd, Seaford, DE 19973 on Sunday May 3, 2026. There will be a visitation from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm followed by a brief service and then food and fellowship. We invite all to come and join us in this celebration of Dave’s life. In his own words, he said “Do not make this a funeral. This is a celebration, with more laughs than tears please.” Dress code is your choice. Dave loved to dress up, but he was also a very casual man, so please just be comfortable and join us for the celebration of a wonderful man who will be missed terribly.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Dave’s memory to ALS United Mid-Atlantic. Their address is 1015 Virginia Drive, Suite 110, Fort Washington, PA 19034. Note that ALS United is different from the ALS Association, but any donation supporting ALS is much appreciated.
