Carolyn grew up on a farm in rural Pennsylvania.  She graduated from Warwick High School in 1944.  She attended West Chester State Teachers College for a year and then she learned of an opportunity to become a telephone operator for Diamond State Telephone Company in Wilmington, DE.  She later transferred to the growing town of Seaford, DE because of a need for operators there.  Carolyn was active in the Sweet Adelines chorus group and also participated in several Miss Seaford contests.  She was an accomplished pianist, which was her talent at the Miss Seaford contests.  She became the organist at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic church in Seaford.

Bob Kripaitis was a member of the church and he and Carolyn met at church social events and married in 1960.  Carolyn became a mother to Bob’s three young children and they had 5 more children together.  Their youngest daughter, Becky, was born with Down Syndrome.  Carolyn was a devoted mother to Becky supporting her in the Special Olympics and also as a girl scout leader for Becky’s troop.  Carolyn managed a busy home with 8 children and also enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting and taking care of family cats and dogs.  Carolyn, Bob and Becky traveled all over the United States in their travel trailer visiting family and sight-seeing.  Carolyn and Bob also participated in the Delaware Senior Olympics and then the National Senior Olympics.  Carolyn was in her late 60s at the time and participated as a cyclist.

She lived in her home in Seaford for nearly 60 years, cared for in the later years by her family and loving caregivers.  She moved to Colorado from Seaford, DE in 2021 to live with Maria’s family for a year and then when she needed more care, she went to the Boulder Canyon Nursing home.  She was well-loved and cared for by the staff at Boulder Canyon.

Services and a celebration of her long life will be held in the Spring.  Interment will be beside Bob and Becky at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro, DE.
