Barry Carey, 77, of Seaford, Delaware, passed away on May 23, 2026. Born on May 13, 1949, and raised in Laurel, Barry lived a life marked by courage, loyalty, and quiet strength.
A gifted athlete, Barry signed with the Houston Astros organization right out of high school before enlisting into the United States Army. He served a tour in Vietnam and was later stationed in Germany, where he became a Sergeant. He was also a proud member of the American Legion for 44 years.
Barry loved the outdoors and found peace in hunting, fishing, and camping. He was a devoted Baltimore Orioles fan and took great joy in watching his family play the sport he loved. He worked for many years at Jack & Jill Ice Cream, where he was known for his humor, reliability, and easygoing spirit.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Betty Carey; his son, Jeffrey Carey; his wife, Mary Carey; his brother, Michael Carey; his sister, Janet Gillette; grandson Austin Gray; Daughter-in-law Tanya Gray; and his nephew, Scott Hovatter.
He is survived by his sister Judy Carey; his brother Ted Carey and wife Beth; his niece and nephews Amy, Richard, and Linden Carey; his daughter Margaret Hassman and husband Jack; his son Richard Gray and wife Vicki; and brother-in-law Tom Crowe. Barry is also survived by his grandchildren — Brianne Gray and her husband Antonio, Hunter and Jonathan Gray, Emily and Alex Hassman, and other great nieces and nephews - all of whom will forever cherish his love and the lessons he shared.
Barry will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
