BARBARA SHORT Obituary

Barbara C. Short, age 83, of Bridgeville, Delaware, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026.  Barbara was born on February 18, 1943 in Milford, DE to the late Kenneth G. Chatwin and Margaret Williams Chatwin.

Barbara was a 1961 graduate of Seaford High School.  She was a homemaker the majority of her life.  However, she worked as an aide at Nanticoke Hospital after high school graduation and during the Christmas season at Peebles.  She worked at Waller’s Pharmacy in Bridgeville in the mid 1970s.  It was at Waller’s Pharmacy that she met the love of her life, Richard L.Short.  They married on July 31, 1976 and together raised five children. 

Barbara enjoyed reading, baking, knitting, and crocheting.  She loved her family dearly.  She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren at the pool, dancing, or playing games.  Barbara loved her dogs and called them her “babies”.  Barbara was always willing to lend a hand to a friend or family member in need.

She is survived by her two sons Richard C. Short and Kenneth A. Richardson (Billie Jo), three daughters Laura E. Pepper (David), Margaret E. Richardson, and Susan E. Oldham (Terry).  She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, her beloved dog Sally, and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Short; her parents, Kenneth & Margaret Chatwin; her sister, Sandra L. Herbert; three grandchildren, Moriah E. Sutton, Noel E. Short, and Casey E. Zitvogel; and her beloved dog, Holly.

Funeral services will be private.
