Agnes Kochis Comorat Pepper, of Seaford, Delaware, died on May 11, 2021 at The Manor House where she had resided for 5 years. She was 102 years old.
Born October 6, 1918 in Throop, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Stephen Andrew Kochis and Rose Mary Strycek and one of 12 children. Agnes graduated from Throop High School. She spoke Slovak fluently and even in later years of her life translated letters from Slovak to English for friends.
Over the years she also lived in Penns Grove, New Jersey, Sharptown, Maryland, and Selbyville, Delaware. She worked in retail, including 14 years for Vernon Powell Shoes.
In 1936, Agnes married Joseph Stephen Comorat. They had five children. Married for 18 years, Joseph predeceased her in 1957. In 1972, she married Homer H. Pepper of Selbyville, Delaware who also predeceased her in 1976. She moved back to Seaford where she lived the remainder of her life.
An absolutely incredible cook, Agnes also enjoyed music, (especially singing along to songs from the 30’s and 40’s), playing Bridge and attending celebration gatherings with her family. A member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for more than 70 years she volunteered for many committees. She also served as President of the Widows group.
Mrs. Pepper is survived by her five children, Joseph Comorat (Gail), of Lewes, Delaware; Elsie Durland (George) of Potomac, Maryland; Mary Chaffinch (Ronald) of Seaford, Delaware, Stephanie Thomas (David) of Emporia, Virginia; and Susan Comorat of Seaford, Delaware and two step-daughters; Jeanne Pepper Moore and Elizabeth Pepper McCabe. She is also survived by her younger sibling, Eleanor Kochis Kaczor of Tom’s River, New Jersey; 8 grandchildren: Stephanie Comorat, Karen Durland, Dawn Diamond, David Thomas, Eric Durland, Steven Comorat, Greg Thomas and Christa Chaffinch and 10 great-grandchildren: Amanda Thomas, Ashley Thomas, Brennan Diamond, Ethan Diamond, Edward Durland, Nathan Durland, Norah Braun, Kody Christtaldi, Haley Comorat and Wyatt Comorat.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes R. C. Church for family only due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.
