MARY "EVELYN" HASTINGS JAMES

October 10, 1933 ~ December 28, 2017 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Mary “Evelyn” Hastings James, 84, went to her heavenly home on December 28, 2017 while at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE.

Evelyn was born October 10, 1933 in Easton, MD to the late Harry E. Hastings and Myra E. (Lankford) Hastings.  She was a lifelong resident of Seaford, living near Reliance as a child and spending most of her adult life on Tharp Road prior to moving to Homestead at Lofland Park Center in recent months.

As a young adult, Evelyn worked as a receptionist at Nanticoke Hospital and, later, the Manor House, which is where she met her husband Gene Francis James, whom she married September 9, 1967.  Together they delighted in traveling domestically and internationally, with their trip to the Holy Land being the highlight.  After her husband’s passing in 1995, Evelyn enjoyed day trips by bus with Delaware Tech.

Most notably, her greatest life passion was her relationship with her Lord, Jesus Christ, which inspired her generosity to individuals in need and various ministries dedicated to spreading the Gospel.  She was a regular churchgoer, worshipping with many different local congregations over the years.  In her latter years, loving her precious cats and feeding the ducks behind her home brought her daily joy.

In addition to her husband and parents, Evelyn was predeceased by three brothers Howard, Harry T., and J. Webster Hastings, one sister, Louise H. Pittard, and one nephew, Vernon Hastings.  She is survived by three nieces—Linda P. Carter of Millsboro, Elaine P. Betts of Dover, and Debra P. (Daniel) Bryan of Georgetown, as well as four great-nephews and one great-niece. Services will be private.
