DONALD LEROY SHORT

82 years born 12/31/35 of Milford, Delaware resided in Seaford Delaware. Passed away to the Lord on Friday, July 13, 2018 at Delaware Hospice in Milford surrounded by loved ones. He left loved ones: his wife of 62 years Suzanne Shreve Short, daughters Susan Denise Lawton (George) and Deanne Beth Fonda (Carl); Grandchildren Brandi Lawton, Zachary Lawton (Faith), Jennifer Fonda and Abigail Fonda; Great-Grandchildren: Serenity Lawton, Kylie Doughty, Hunter Lawton and Elijah Daub; brother Dwight Short (Joan) and sister Eileen McGrath (Ed); Nephews Michael Short, Jesse Perry and Niece Cindy Vincent; sister and brother-in-law Gerald and Margaret Perry. He was preceded in death by his parents; Sara Elizabeth Wright Short and Oscar Leroy Short of Milford, Delaware.

After graduating from Milford High School, he graduated from Goldey Beacom College, and continued his education at Widener University and University of Pennsylvania. After finishing college he worked in public accounting firms for many years and then moved to Seaford to work at Jones, Jefferson and Urion. He then became comptroller of Messick and Gray/Power Trans. His dream was to have his own tax business, so he left Power Trans and opened Jackson Hewitt Tax Services in Easton, Seaford and Millsboro and later: Atwork Personnel Services. He loved tax accounting and throughout the years had acquired many faithful clients and friends.

He served on the vestry at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and was on the Board as Treasurer of Seaford Golf & Country Club. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be truly missed. He loved playing golf with his golf buddies that were friends for years.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 3, 2018 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church 202 North St. Seaford Delaware 19973 with visitation starting at 10am and service at 11am, followed by burial in the church cemetery and reception in the parish house.
