Betty Fryling Young, age 93, of Seaford, DE passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 7, 2018.
A lifelong resident of Seaford, DE, Betty was the daughter of the late Wilbur B. Fryling and Elise Baker Fryling. She graduated from Seaford High School in 1942 and continued her education at the University of Delaware. In 1945 she graduated with a degree in elementary education and participated in graduate studies in following years. Betty taught elementary school throughout Delaware for 35 years, retiring in 1986. Forever the teacher she tutored children in reading into her 80s.
Volunteering and giving back to the community was very special in Betty’s heart. Sussex County Knitters, the Seaford Historical Society, Friends of the Seaford Library and Nanticoke Hospital are just some of the places she volunteered. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for 64 years and the GFWC Acorn Club.
Faith was also something of utmost importance in Betty’s life. She was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church. In addition to teaching Sunday school and working with the youth group, she was the director of the Bible School for special people for many years.
Betty’s husband, James E. Young, Sr passed away in 2011. She is survived by her son, James Young Jr (Cathy), her daughter, Jane Johnson (Skeeter), her five grandchildren, Kurk, Luan, Brian, Kate and Jesse and her seven great-grandchildren, Sam, Isabella, Alexander, Rosalie, Sloane, Darla and Garrett.
Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, October 10th at Noon at Christ Lutheran Church, 315 N. Shipley St, Seaford, where friends may call from 11 to 12. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
