WILMER CLYDE CASON

September 6, 1919 ~ March 10, 2017 (age 97) 97 Years Old

Wilmer Clyde Cason (Wil or Casey as his friends knew him), passed away on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford, Delaware.

Casey was born on September 6, 1919 in Clayton, New Mexico. 

Casey and his family moved to a farm in Milton, Delaware (near Sandhill area) when he was a young child. 

He is preceded in death by his parents William Garner Cason and

Opal Gertrude Womble Cason, and his wife of 58 years                     Ethel Mae Warren Cason.

Casey graduated from Milton High School in 1931.  He always enjoyed arranging his class reunions for his twelve classmates. 

During World War II, Casey served in the U.S. Army from 1943 until 1945 with the 2nd Infantry Division.  The Division landed in Normandy on D-Day+1 at Omaha Beach, continued its way across northern France, Belgium and the German Rhineland, and was actively engaged in the Battle of the Bulge.  At the time of his discharge, Casey had attained the rank of 1LT and had been awarded the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantry Badge, and the European Theater of Operations Ribbon with four bronze service stars. 

Casey worked for Dupont for forty years and five months, retiring on April 1, 1982.  Casey was very active in the community serving on the boards for Delaware State Labor, Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, and Seaford Golf and Country Club.  He was an active member with the Seaford Kiwanis, serving a term as Secretary.   He was a member of the Seaford Golf and Country Club, where Casey loved playing golf.  Casey was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Wilmington Valley Scottish Right.  He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, where Casey was proud to serve as an usher for many years.  Casey enjoyed playing bridge with his wife, Ethel Mae, in their couples’ bridge club. 

In March of 2015 Casey moved to the Seaford Manor House, where he lived until his death.  He was very happy at the Manor House in his apartment overlooking the courtyard, surrounded by his friends and close to his family.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Manor House, 1001 Middleford Rd, Seaford, DE on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 2:00p.m.   

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church, 300 Pine Street, Seaford, Delaware, 19973.
