Captain William M. Tiley, retired Delaware State Police, age 86, of Seaford, DE passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
Captain Tiley retired from the Delaware State Police in 1976, after 20 year of service. When he retired he was the Field Force Commander for the Southern Division and Staff Captain Supervisor of Section and Head of Detectives, stationed at State Police Headquarters in Dover. After retiring he worked for the Penco Corporation in Seaford and Easton, MD, then for the Cranston Funeral Home in Seaford and with his son, Mark at Tiley Sandblasting. He was a Past Master of Hiram Lodge #21, AF & AM in Seaford and also served on the Grand Lodge Staff for the State of Delaware. He was also a past member of the Seaford Volunteer Fire Department. Bill was also a basketball referee.
Bill’s beloved wife of 65 years, Rebecca Ann Tiley passed away on March 20, 2014. He is survived by his son, Mark Tiley and his wife Paige, daughters, Billie Ann Shaffer and her husband Richard and Tracy Gillespie and her fiancée, Rev. Scott Harter, grandchildren, Dustin Tiley, Jesslyn Karns, Bradley Gillespie and Christopher Shaffer, a great-granddaughter, Tyleigh Karns, a niece, Suzanne Matzeit and a nephew, Steven Bradley.
Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He always put family first in his life.
Funeral Services will be on Saturday, May 20th at 1 PM at the Cranston Funeral Home, 300 N. Shipley St, Seaford, where friends may call from 11 AM to 1 PM. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Federalsburg, MD.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations may be made to the Delaware State Police, C/O Camp Barnes, P O Box 430, Dover, DE 19903-0430 or St. John’s United Methodist Church, 300 N. Pine St, Seaford, DE 19973.
