Samuel E. Powell, Sr.- Harrington, DE passed away at Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital on Friday, March 30, 2018

 

Born to the late John and Beatrice Powell of New Brunswick, NJ on January 5, 1938 the second of four children. The family soon moved to Delaware and eventually settle outside of Harrington. 

 

Sam work briefly for Sears Selling tires until taking over his family business and farm. Sam ran the business pumping septic systems and installing them as well. He would often point out locations of previous work sites ranging from septic installs to clearing of lots to digging footers for construction sites. 

 

Sam enjoyed running the business with his wife Patrica I. (Arnold) Powell who preceded him in death in April of 2001. His business partner Samuel E Powell, Jr. also preceded him in October 2010. 

 

Sam served his country in 101st Airborne and met Patricia while stationed in Kentucky. 

 

Family meant a lot to Sam and he was proud of each member. He leaves behind Genece LeCates (Rev. Everett/ Bunky), Janie Miller (Raymond, Jr. ) grandchildren Fred Jarman, Jr., Jeffrey LeCates (Sherri), Samuel LeCates and Samuel Spencer E Powell, III.  Great grandchildren Hailey, Kailey, Kayla, Colby, Samuel, Cheyenne, Cameron, Grace and Hayleigh. He leaves one sister Louise Smith (Fred,Jr.) and his girlfriend Mary Hirt, his brother and sister John Powell and Beatrice Browning preceded him as well. Sam was preceded by one great grand daughter Patricia Mary.

Sam was members of The Harrington Moose Lodge, the American Legion and Hiram Lodge 21 Masonic Lodge in Seaford. 

 

Celebration of Life Services will be on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Bethel Worship Center 26648 Sussex Hwy., Seaford, DE starting at 1:00 pm. Pastor Joe LeCates officiating. Burial will be in St. Johnstown United Methodist Church Cemetery, Greenwood.  Friends may call at the Cranston Funeral Home, 300 N. Shipley St, Seaford,  on Thursday from 6 to 8 PM and at the church on Friday from 12 to 1.
