Ronald V. LaValley, 84, passed away at home on February 12, 2018 while in the care of his family and Delaware Hospice. Mr. LaValley suffered a stroke on February 1, 2018.
He was born in Saginaw, Michigan by Floyd and Alma LaValley. He was one of 6 children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally in 2010. He was also preceded in death by his brother, two of his sisters, and his youngest son.
During his career he was in charge of maintenance at the state hospital in Northville, Michigan. He was skilled in the trades of plumbing, electrical, HVAC and carpentry. He had many hobbies including gardening, landscaping, home remodeling, and keeping up with American politics.
Mr. LaValley saw service with the US Navy during the Korean War. He was assigned to a destroyer which made multiple voyages to Korea and Japan. He was especially moved by the suffering of American military frostbite victims in Korea.
Mr. LaValley is survived by a son and a daughter and three step-daughters and one step-son. He had thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 11:00 am.
