Madeleine E. Sweeney, 77 of Seaford, DE passed away on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Carroll Hospice “Dove” House, surrounded by her family.
Born on June 11, 1941 in Elmira, NY, she was the daughter of the late Angelina M Edwards, and Earl J Edwards II. A graduate of Southside High School, she lived most of her life between Chemung County, NY and Sussex County Delaware and eventually settling down in Seaford. She was a very kind and generous woman and mother. Maddy wore many hats through life; mother and homemaker, chicken farmer, secretary, and even a gig as a Schuyler County Deputy Sheriff in Watkins Glen, NY.
Her passion was helping people who needed the small things in life, a call, a hug, a ride, or whatever to help ease their load. Maddy loved butterflies and gardening, but her faith in God carried her through life. She enjoyed her years in lower Delaware with many friends there who looked out for her and allowed her to stay in her home.
Madeleine is survived by daughter Christine Cady of Lindley NY, and son William Cady and wife Anita of Finksburg, MD, brothers Earl “Skip” Edwards III and wife Teresia of Bradenton, FL, and Michael C. Edwards and wife Carol of Attic, NY, and her uncle Charles D Milazzo Jr of Elmira, NY. There were countless cousins, nieces, and nephews that helped Maddy along the way.
Funeral Services for Maddy will be on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Noon at the Cranston Funeral Home, 300 N. Shipley St, Seaford, DE, where friends may call from 11 to 12. She will be laid to rest in Millsboro Cemetery.
Maddy will be missed, and we all loved her very much, but with god’s grace we’ll see her again one day!
