Joseph “Rhea” Shannon, age 77, of Seaford, DE passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2016.

          Rhea retired from the Penco Corporation in Seaford after 41 years of service, where he was a salesman and a manager of the Easton, MD store.  After retirement he worked for the Cranston Funeral Home.

          He served on the Seaford City Council from 2005 to 2014.  He was Vice-Mayor from 2007 to 2014, Police/Fire Commissioner from 2007 to 2014 and Administration Liaison from 2005 to 2007. He was a Life Member of the Seaford Volunteer Fire Co and a Past Fire Chief, a member of Hiram Lodge #21 AF&AM.  He was also an active member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, where he had served on their Board.  

          Rhea is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia Rawlins Shannon, a son Scott Shannon (May), 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Shannon in 2011.

          Memorial Services will be on Saturday, May 7th at 2 PM at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Pine & Poplar Sts, Seaford, where friends may call from 1 to 2. 

          In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church, P O Box 299, Seaford, DE 19973 or Vitas Hospice, 20103 Professional Park Blvd, #200, Georgetown, DE 19947.
